De kunstwerken van Esther Hoogendijk zijn altijd in beweging. Ze groeien, veranderen langzaam van kleur, vorm en materie. In haar werk staan het verstrijken van de tijd en de natuurlijke en menselijke invloed centraal. Voor het werk Climb Up, speciaal gemaakt voor Triënnale Alkmaar, heeft Hoogendijk zich laten inspireren door het komen en gaan van inwoners, het groeien van de stad en het krimpen van de natuur. Het werk groeit letterlijk door tijdens de Triënnale waardoor het aanzicht telkens verandert. Als bezoeker kun je steeds minder goed door het oorspronkelijke raamwerk heen kijken, net als in de stad die steeds voller raakt.

Na de tentoonstelling kan het kunstwerk geoogst worden, deze oogst gebruikt Hoogendijk vervolgens in een nieuw werk.

 

Climb Up (2025)

The artworks of Esther Hoogendijk are always in motion. They grow, slowly change in color, form, and material. In her work, the passage of time and the influence of nature and humanity are central themes. For the piece Climb Up, created especially for Triënnale Alkmaar, Hoogendijk was inspired by the coming and going of residents, the growth of the city, and the shrinking of nature.

The work literally grows throughout the Triënnale, causing its appearance to continuously change. As a visitor, you’ll find it increasingly difficult to see through the original framework—just like in a city that becomes ever more crowded.

After the exhibition, the artwork can be harvested. Hoogendijk then uses this harvest to create a new piece.
