Wie liepen er door Alkmaar voor ons? Wie woonde en leefde hier in de omgeving? De drie koppen van Folkert de Jong bevragen de vooruitgang van het menselijke bestaan. De kostuums van de mensen waren vroeger misschien wel heel anders dan nu. Maar zijn dynamieken zoals macht, politiek en moraal, nu eigenlijk wel zo anders dan vroeger?

De Jong is een Nederlandse beeldhouwer die bekent staat om zijn theatrale, bijna barokke figureren die vaak refereren aan historische gebeurtenissen, politieke situaties en culturele iconen. Het werk van De Jong onderzoekt thema’s als de menselijke conditie, machtsverhoudingen en maatschappelijke problemen zoals oorlog en geweld. Met zijn historische referenties levert hij commentaar op onze huidige samenleving en de lessen die we wel of niet hebben getrokken uit het verleden.

Who walked through Alkmaar before us? Who lived and thrived in this region? The three heads by Folkert de Jong question the notion of human progress. Perhaps the clothing people wore in the past was vastly different—but are the dynamics of power, politics, and morality really so different today?

Folkert de Jong is a Dutch sculptor known for his theatrical, almost baroque figures that often reference historical events, political situations, and cultural icons. His work explores themes such as the human condition, power structures, and societal issues like war and violence. Through historical references, De Jong offers commentary on our present-day society and the lessons we have—or haven’t—learned from the past.
